There are two distinct varieties of Chinese Cresteds, the Hairless Chinese Crested and the PowderpuffChinese Crested. They can both be born in the same litter. The genetics are a bit complicated to explain, but in general:
* If a hairless Chinese crested is bred to a hairless Chinese crested, you can have both hairless and powderpuff puppies.
* If a hairless Chinese crested is bred to a powderpuff Chinese crested, you can have both hairless and powderpuffs.
* If a powderpuff is bred to a powderpuff, the only puppies you can have from that litter are powderpuffs.
It should be noted that breeding a hairless to a hairless results in a higher risk of puppies inheriting the hairless gene from both parents. If a puppy inherits this gene from both parents, it will most likely die before birth. If it is born alive, it will die within a few days, they cannot survive.
Both the hairless and powderpuff variety are said to be non-allergenic. They do not shed hair like most other dog breeds. Their hair is almost like human hair.
